Just a few months ago, it seemed like paying for everyday services with crypto was just a pipe dream. But now, it looks like the ultimate crypto vision is soon to be realized. AMC Theatres, the well-renowned movie exhibition company, recently reported their earnings for the third quarter of this year. On Monday, they revealed that they’d been cooking up some crypto plans that will take effect sooner than we think.
The company is the largest movie exhibition firm across Europe, the US, and the world. Based on data from March of this year, they operate almost 10,500 screens across the world. That’s about 950 theatres.
The CEO, Adam Aron, was excited to unveil the company’s crypto plans to fans of digital assets and the company’s large customer base. He explained that recently, AMC theatres began accepting cryptocurrency as a way for customers to pay for gift cards. Now, the company is making changes in the encoding process to accept payments in digital currency through their mobile application and website.
He reiterated that, just as promised, AMC Theatres will be offering users the option to pay with crypto. Initially, they’ll be offering the option to pay from four types of digital currencies by next month. These include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin. But that’s not the end of it, because he already announced that they’re working on accepting payments in Dogecoin as well. According to his estimates, AMC Theatres will be taking payments in Dogecoin within the first quarter of next year. That’s just a few months from now!
But this doesn’t mean that the CEO was outright looking to accept Dogecoin payments. Rather, he first took to Twitter and set up a poll to ask users what they thought about the idea. He asked them if they would prefer AMC to accept payments in Dogecoin and received an overwhelming response. So much that the company instantly began looking at the logistics of accepting Dogecoin as a means of payment from customers.
Now, you’re probably wondering if AMC Theatres will accept Shiba Inu, and that’s what brought about a wave of commentary from SHIBarmy. Fans of the Dogecoin-killer cryptocurrency flooded the CEO with reasons as to why AMC Theatres should accept it. This led him to put up another poll. He asked them if the company should accept payments in SHIB as well as DOGE.
Once an overwhelming majority of 87.6 percent of respondents said yes, AMC rose up to the challenges. The CEO commented that they’re now looking into how they can offer Shiba Inu as a payment option for AMC Theatres products. This goes to show that sooner or later, many other mainstream companies will start accepting payments in cryptocurrency one way or another.
