In the year 2021, investors poured massive funding exceeding US$ 30 Billion for investment purposes into the digital asset industry.
Crypto investment has been rising for the past many years. However, none of the years saw such a huge investment as has been seen in the year 2021 alone. As per the data, globally, the investors brought more than US$ 30 Billion in the digital asset industry as an investment last year. Initially, cryptocurrencies were first introduced in 2009 and since then investors had been putting investments in them. However, in between 2009 till 2020, the industry had not seen such a huge investment ever. In fact, the amount invested in the digital asset industry from 2009 till 2020 was not even close to US$ 30 Billion.
Out of this US$30 Billion investment in 2021, approximately 7.2 Billion Dollars were poured into the industry by investors from the US. The major portion of the 2021 crypto investment was however contributed by the institutional sector. Institutional investors were keeping a close eye on crypto and saw it becoming a separate and mainstream industry in 2021.
Within crypto, there are now multiple industries such as exchanges, games, NFTs, Metaverse, Defi, etc. These sub-industries too were able to receive multi-million dollar investments and, in some cases, over multi-billion-dollar investments as well. Not only the crypto as mainstream but also the side industries too became mainstream within no time. Crypto exchanges started to commence capital raising campaigns for expanding their crypto business internally and abroad. For instance, FTX was one of those crypto exchanges which was able to collect funds exceeding US$ 1 Billion in its fund-raising campaigns.
Similarly, Metaverse is currently trending and has been receiving millions of dollars investment on daily basis. Metaverse projects such as “Axie Infinity” were able to increase their valuations by US$ 3 Billion in 2021. This increased valuation helped Axie Infinity to raise more than US$ 150 Million in the month of October, 2021. The Sandbox, which is a Metaverse project, also emerged as one of the most prominent projects in the same year. The company also concluded its first round of fund-raising campaign by bagging more than US$ 93 Million.
Millions of dollars sales have also been taking place in the crypto-led NFT industry. NFT industry is led by OpenSea which saw its valuation exceeding above US$ 10 Billion. Resultantly, the company also initiated a fundraising campaign and ended its first round by generating more than US$ 100 Million.
Presently, the crypto market is not the same as it was at the end of 2021. It has lost formidable gains that were acquired in the last year. However, investments have not stopped even though the market is declining gradually. When there is a dip, it is said that it is the perfect timing for investing in digital asset industry.
