Two rap icons that have embraced NFTs, Snoop Dogg And Eminem, will sing at MTV’s VMAs (Video Music Awards) on Sunday. The BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club) NFTs and Otherside metaverse had inspired the duo to create a song, ‘From the D 2 the LBC’.
Two Rap Legends And Supporters Of NFT To Perform At MTV VMAs
Meanwhile, Otherside is a collaborative project between Animoca Brands, an NFT investment giant, and Yuga Labs. By partnering with Yuga Labs, both singers would be giving Otherside more exposure.
Also, they would transform the stage to look like the style they used for their NFT single. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the VMAs added another category, the ‘Best Metaverse Performance,’ to its award this year.
Some nominees for this category include Twenty One Pilots, Justin Bieber, and Rift Tour, which featured Ariana Grande. This shows that the music industry is embracing metaverse music performances.
The VMAs likely added the metaverse category to attract more viewers. This is because statistics revealed the number of people watching the show had dipped recently.
Since reaching an all-time high of 12.4 million in 2011, it has been recording a huge decline, with only 900,000 watching the show in 2021. Meanwhile, the single by Snoop Dogg and Eminem is the first collaboration between both artists in over 20 years.
Snoop Dogg, Eminem, And NFTs
Both singers have the BAYC NFTs with their song’s music video filled with NFT content. Recently, Snoop Dogg was featured in an animated BAYC NFT video with Esther Anaya.
Last December, Eminem bought BAYC hip-hop clothes for about 123.45 ETH. He also has 28 NFTs under the tag, Shady_Holdings.
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg has been more active in the NFT sector and has partnered with The Sandbox to launch the NFT collection, ‘The Doggies.’
Otherside is an interoperable Metaverse that is presently under development. The Metaverse platform has Otherdeed NFTs, which represent ownership of digital plots in the virtual space. Those who have Otherdeed are called ‘Voyagers.’
As stated by the platform, Otherside will have support for interoperability and allow users to use other NFT collections in the metaverse platform.
A report from CryptoSlam revealed Otherdeed NFT sales have added over $1 billion. Additionally, demand for NFTs has been high in the NFT community. A plot of land on Otherside was sold for about 333.33 ETH (about $565,289) at the beginning of the year.
However, it is not certain if the event on Sunday would record increased viewership due the integration of NFTs and the metaverse award category.
